One person was killed and two others were injured when government forces conducted a raid in Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi, before dawn Tuesday, the military reported.
Sabri Umbing, one of the raid’s targets, resisted arrest and fired on government forces so they retaliated, according to a report from the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command.
Operatives arrested Suraidi Umbing, 70; and Arasad Mukin, 56; while the fourth target, Ilol Umbing, was not found at his home.
Members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team 12 and PNP Special Action Force carried out the operation in Brgys. Batu-batu and Sumangday, around 1:15 a.m.
Operatives implemented arrest warrants issued by the court in Parang, Sulu, in February 2000 for multiple murder, the report said.
The case stemmed from the killing of a policeman, businessman, and an engineering student that year, the military said.
Mukin had also been implicated in kidnapping activities in Tawi-Tawi, it said.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of an M1 Garand rifle, AK-47 rifle, a pistolized M14 rifle, at least seven magazines, 172 rounds of various ammunition, and a cellphone.
