2 dead, 5 hurt as wayward car slams into truck in Bukidnon

Two persons died and five more were injured when the car they were riding went wayward and slammed into an incoming tractor head in Maramag, Bukidnon, police reported.

The fatalities were both 16 years old and among five minors aboard the car, according to a report from the Bukidnon provincial police.

Injured were the three other minors, and Zyra Ortiz, 21, and James Balbero, 20.

According to police, one of the five minors was driving the car when the incident occurred around 1:140 p.m. Wednesday, along the Sayre Highway in Musuan, Brgy. Dologon.

Investigation indicated that the car, a Kia sedan, was heading south towards Damulog when its driver lost control of the steering wheel, until the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane.

It was then hit by the incoming tractor head driven by one Totong Batahoy.

The impact pushed the car to the road shoulder and caused injuries to all of its seven occupants, police said.

The seven were brought to different hospitals, but two expired because of serious injuries.

Batahoy is being held for further investigation, while the car’s minor driver was taken into custody by the Women and Children’s Protection Desk.
