Two men were arrested and a stash of shabu, which could fetch as much as P3.1 million, was seized when authorities carried out a buy-bust operation in Tayabas City, Quezon, police reported.
Arrested were Edwin Luistro, 50, and Nolly Batoto, 52, both residents of Catanauan town, according to a report from the Quezon provincial police.
Members of the Tayabas police conducted the operation around 6 p.m., in Brgy. Calumpang.
Luistro was collared when he sold a sachet of shabu to an undercover policeman helped by an informant, the report said.
Operatives later seized from him two knot-tied packs containing suspected shabu, as well as the “boodle money.”
Amid the commotion, Batoto escaped on a black Nissan Navara pickup and was chased, until he was cornered.
He was found in possession of four knot-tied packs also containing suspected shabu, the report said.
A total of 155.85 grams of suspected shabu was seized from the suspects.
Current estimates of the Dangerous Drugs Board place the amount of the contraband at P1.059 million, but the “street value” can reach almost P3.18 million, police said.
Luistro and Batoto are presently detained at the Tayabas City Police Station while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law are being prepared against them.
