MANILA—The first trailer of “Yellow Rose,” the acclaimed film starring Lea Salonga and Eva Noblezada, has finally been released.
Directed by Diane Paragas, “Yellow Rose” centers on a Filipino girl (Noblezada) from Texas whose country music dreams are derailed by a threat of deportation.
Joining Noblezada and Salonga in the film are Filipino screen veteran Princess Punzalan, and American country singer Dale Watson.
Aside from “Yellow Rose,” Noblezada and Salonga have another major project in common. Salonga was the original Kim in the musical “Miss Saigon,” a role Noblezada now portrays in the latest revival.
Prior to its theatrical run, “Yellow Rose” garnered several awards, including the grand jury prizes from the 2019 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF), the 2019 Bentonville Film Festival, and the CAAMFEST37.
Noblezada also won special jury prize at the LAAPFF for her breakout performance.
“‘Yellow Rose’ has taken over 15 years to make and it couldn’t come at a more important time when anti-immigrant sentiment is at an all-time high. This is a story for everyone facing challenges in finding their voice, their dreams and, more importantly, their home,” Paragas earlier said.
The film is supported by New York-based Asian CineVision, Cinematografo Originals (ABS-CBN Global), and was awarded the Ravenal Foundation Feature Film Grant last year by the New York Women in Film & Television.
