Five persons died and several others were injured in separate road accidents in Sorsogon and Camarines Sur on Sunday night and Monday morning, police reported.
Two persons died when a car crashed into a van along the Maharlika Highway in Brgy. San Jose of Baao, Camarines Sur, around 4:20 a.m. Monday, according to the Bicol regional police.
The gray Toyota Hi-Ace van (DAM-5737), carrying 10 persons, was heading north when a Toyota Innova with two people onboard encroached into the former’s lane and collided head-on with it, police said.
Initial information indicated that the fatalities were both occupants of the van. Those injured, including the Innova’s driver and passenger, were brought to different hospitals in Iriga City, Nabua, and Naga City.
Hours earlier, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, three other persons died when the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a 10-wheeled truck in Brgy. South Poblacion of Juban, Sorsogon.
The truck (CBJ-7189), driven by 36-year-old Wellie Solomon, was traveling from Manila to Cebu City when the motorcycle crashed into it, police said.
The motorcycle’s driver and two passengers, all males who have yet to be identified, were brought to the Rural Health Unit of Juban, but were all declared dead on arrival.
Solomon was brought to the local police station for further investigation.
