7K new Covid-19 recoveries push active cases down to 56K

MANILA – A total of 7,837 patients have recovered from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), raising the country’s overall recovery to 1,038,175 as of Tuesday.

In its latest case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said those who have beaten the illness account for 93.2 percent of the Philippines’ total case tally, which has reached 1,113,547.

The number of new infections recorded on Tuesday dropped to 4,734, bringing the total active case tally to 56,752.

Meanwhile, 59 new deaths increased the country’s death toll to 18,620.

The DOH said about 93.4 percent of the active cases are mild, 2.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.8 percent are severe, 1.17 percent are moderate, and 1.4 percent are in critical condition.

“The relatively lower number of cases today is due to the low number of samples received by laboratories and the non-submission of data of 12 laboratories last Sunday,” it said.

The department said 13 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 10 of these were recoveries.

Moreover, 19 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation, it added.

The DOH data on May 9 showed that 12.2 percent of 32,205 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

To date, 60 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 44 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, 50 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 41 percent of 2,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are occupied nationwide.

Meanwhile, 67 percent of 1,900 intensive care unit beds, 46 percent of 13,500 isolation beds, 51 percent of 6,000 ward beds, and 49 percent of 2,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region.

The public is reminded to stay at home and observe minimum health standards when going out.

The DOH urged those experiencing Covid-19 symptoms to immediately isolate and contact the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams. (PNA)
