At least 1 shot, 1 detained after reported active shooter at Texas mall: police

At least one person was shot and another was detained Saturday after authorities responded to reports of an active shooter at Deerbrook Mall in Humble, Texas.

The Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 said deputies responded alongside the Humble Police Department to the mall, located in the 20100 block of U.S. Highway 59.

“At this time, one victim has been reported shot, and one person has been detained,” the constable’s office said in a statement. “Law enforcement officers remain on scene as the investigation continues.”

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were working with partner agencies to secure the mall.

“Please avoid the area and follow the directions of law enforcement personnel,” the sheriff’s office said. “Our deputies are working alongside our law enforcement partners to help secure the scene and protect the public.”

The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately known. Authorities have not said whether they are searching for additional suspects.

Police scanner traffic indicated officers were clearing the mall and evacuating stores, though officials have not publicly confirmed those details.
