In these times when the mask has become almost a part of your makeup, having cared-for skin around the eyes can do wonders for one’s appearance.

I have always had dark circles around my eyes, and bags that sometimes turn to luggage from having late nights writing or working on special projects.

Although there are a few good products out there that target dark circles, puffiness, lines and wrinkles, I have long given up on anything that can help me wake up to eyes that look 10 years younger. At best, you get a day of looking like “you got enough sleep.”

I have tried products that claim to erase dark circles, and even a nifty roller ball made of metal that is cool on the skin and delivers a serum that promised to depuff the eye area. I have tested concealers with skincare benefits and continue to use eye creams as part of my nightly regimen, patting the thin-skinned area as gently as possible.

I used to plop on one of those spa beds and let an aesthetician give me a facial for glowy skin that would last for a couple of days. Because of the pandemic, I had to find DIY solutions or scour the online shops for at-home treatments for tired, stressed skin.

Among the best ones that landed in my hands is called BSKIN, now available in the Philippines.

The brand developed by a team of experts with a combined 50 years of experience in the Korean beauty industry has come up with three products: an eye serum, an anti-acne cream and a “smart cream.”

The Anti-Acne 3c Spot Treatment is a targeted acne treatment that helps control breakouts in three simple steps.

The SS Cream (Smart Skin Cream) has “four essential functions: skincare, sunblock, makeup base and a foundation. Free from parabens, artificial fragrances and other chemical nasties, it evens and brightens your natural skin tone, leaving you with glowy, translucent skin. It also acts as a light weight, non-oily moisturiser that dries to a flawless, silky finish in 10 seconds and lasts all day without darkening.”

Road test

BSKIN’s Eye Care Multi-Tasking Power Serum is described as a “hardworking multitasker.” This is because of its “power-packed cocktail of clinically proven active ingredients, (which) addresses a multitude of concerns,” according to information on its website. These include: Reverses the signs of aging with Adenosine and four different peptides; Erases dark circles and pigmentation with Niacinamide and Sea Daffodil extract; Decongests puffiness with Aloe Vera; Prevents dryness with Glycosyl Trehalose and Betaine; and along with BSKIN’s proprietary antioxidant-rich B2O — an exclusive complex enriched with natural extracts of honey, royal jelly, propolis and pollen together with Jeju Spring Water, to nourish and protect the ultra-sensitive eye area.”

I tried the serum one day, lacking sleep but needing to look fresh for an online event. I patted a small amount of serum around my eyes with my ring finger and waited a minute or two for the serum to be fully absorbed. Though I was not able to store it in the fridge before use, the product felt cool and immediately made the area around my eyes feel refreshed. Storing skincare creams or serums in the fridge not only helps them to last longer but also delivers a soothing effect when applied.

Before I slept the next day, I applied it once more around the eyes.

After just two days of use, the best proof of its efficacy came in the form of a compliment. “You don’t look stressed today. Got enough sleep?”

Enough said.
