Filipino swimmer Gary Bejino set a new record to win a gold medal in the 12th ASEAN Para Games at the Morodok Techo Sports Complex Aquatics Center on Sunday, June 4.
Bejino clocked a new standard time of 5:38.260 to rule the men's 400m freestyle S6 event, giving the Philippines its first gold medal in this edition of the Para Games in the process.
Aung Myint Myat of Myanmar finished a distant second to Bejino, settling for silver with a time of 6:04.170.
Do Thanh Hai of Vietnam registered 6:14.280 to place third and claim the bronze medal.
Bejino's compatriot and fellow swimmer Ernie Gawilan also won a gold medal in the men's 400m freestyle S7 with a time of 4:58.78.
Cendy Asusano also delivered a gold for the Philippines after ruling the women's shot put F54 event.
Asuano's teammate Marites Burce made the podium of the same event as well, clinching a bronze medal.
