MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Blu Girls have set their sights on training in Japan as part of their preparation for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage slated July 14-18 in Lima, Peru.
It was made known Wednesday following the team’s courtesy call with Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines and sponsoring Cebuana Lhuillier president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
The international training is just fitting considering that Japan is nearer and is currently the world’s highest ranked women’s softball country on the planet ahead of another powerhouse in the United States itself.
Interestingly, the Filipinas, ranked No. 13, are bracketed with the dreaded Japanese in Group C along with the No. 3 Puerto Ricans, the Britons, the Venezuelans and the host Peruvians.
"For years, the RP Blu Girls have demonstrated what Filipino athletes are capable of when given the opportunity to train, compete, and represent the country at the highest level,” said Lhuillier.
“As they prepare for another World Cup campaign, it is our responsibility to ensure they have the support they need to succeed," he added.
