Twenty-three-year-old Filipino artist and 2020 Fashion Week San Diego (FWSD) Top Designer Bea Cruz recently gave a stunning sneak peek of her upcoming collection at the 2021 FWSD Spring Showcase in California.
Titled “Bright Young Things,” the grand reveal of the full wardrobe will be held at the FWSD Fall Runway in October 2021.
A nod to the 1920s phrase for young ones, the series encapsulates one of the most glamorous decades in the history of fashion. Inspired by the dashing era of alluring skirts, jazz and overflowing booze, Cruz looks back at the glittering days of the past as she envisions a brilliant future.
Marking the designer’s brand of flair, the international preview introduced an intricately handcrafted dress that married the flamboyance of soft tulle and two kilos worth of gold crystal seed beads.
The glimpse promised a whole assemblage of elegant ensembles that reflect the carefree jazz moves of the ‘20s, as well as heavy sparkling beadworks that stylishly complement the skin.
“‘Bright Young Things’ is reminiscent of the time when people craved for light, speed and celebration of life after being struck by the Great War and the world’s deadliest pandemic, the Spanish flu. This is so fitting for what we are battling in the present,” she expounded.
“This collection tells you about my vision — the kind of life we aspire to take back after the coronavirus,” she added. “I wish this will shed a little ray of hope we can hold on to in these trying times, because we have a lot more roaring centennial years to come.”
Cruz is a designer from Victorias City, Negros Occidental, who honed her creative talent at the Fashion Design and Merchandising Program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts.
