Bulldogs reasstert mastery over Tamaraws, roll to UAAP men’s volleyball six-peat

MANILA, Philippines — The dynasty continues.

National University was just too much for Far Eastern University, completing a six-peat in UAAP men’s volleyball after a three-set win, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22, in Game 2 of the finals Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Bulldogs had to grind out the wins in the first two sets but bared their fangs come the third, with Leo Ordiales leading the pack.

Ordiales was just too strong, too fast and too good as he paced NU with 24 points, including huge shots down the stretch. Jade Disquitado added 13, while Greg Ancheta tossed up 20 excellent sets in the win.

With the match going into deep waters in the third set, as FEU trailed by just two, 16-18, after a Chad Absin hit.

But Ordiales went band for band against NU, punching in four straight points capped by a block, as the Bulldogs held a four point advantage, 22-18.

Dryx Saavedra and Lirick Mendoza tried to keep the Tamaraws into it, but Buds Buddin and Disquitado teamed up to push NU t the championship point, 24-20.

After a FEU point, it was Obed Mukaba who sealed the championship as his powerful quick hit from the middle found the center of the court, giving FEU no chance to return.

Buddin had eight points in the title clincher for the Bulldogs. Peng Taguibolos added seven, while Mukaba had six.

Mikko Espartero finished with 17 points for the Morayta-based squad, who fell against NU for the second straight championship series. Amet Bituin added 10.

All of FEU’s losses this season came at the hands of NU.
