Cardinal Santos Medical Center back as Tour of Luzon official medical partner

MANILA, Philippines — Cardinal Santos Medical Center has renewed its partnership with the organizing Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation to help ensure the medical needs of the whole Tour of Luzon entourage will be provided.

No less than top CSMC honchos headed by president and chief executive officer Raul Pagdanganan and vice president and chief medical officer Dr. Antonio Say forged the agreement with Tour of Luzon CEO and organizer Arrey Perez on Tuesday at its building in Greenhills, San Juan.

“As the official medical partner of the Tour of Luzon, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, together with our partner hospitals across Luzon, we will be there,” said Pagdanganan.

“From the Northern roads down to the Southern highways, our medical team will be on standby and ready to respond wherever and whenever we’re needed,” he added.

For Perez, CSMC is a vital partner to the success of the 14-stage race set from April 28 to May 13.

“We’re proud to have Cardinal Santos Medical Center’s support and we’re ready to make this edition of Tour of Luzon an unforgettable experience,” he said.

CSMC is expected to send ambulances and its mobile bus along with around a 50-strong staff that would include doctors and nurses to be there in case of emergencies.

Last year, the eight-stage edition of the fabled race’s revival had three recorded accidents, including one — a spill by Navy Standard Insurance’s battle-scarred rider Jan Paul Morales — near the finish line of the opening stage in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Thanks to CSMC’s quick response and care, Morales, who suffered broken ribs that went with bruises and wounds, still managed to finish the race and even almost won it before winding up second to eventual winner Joo Dae Young of South Korea.
