Authorities arrested the police’s intelligence chief of Carmen, Cebu when he allegedly asked for money in exchange for releasing a motorcycle confiscated during an anti-drug operation, police reported Saturday.
EMSgt. Julius Medura Obañana was arrested during an entrapment in Brgy. Poblacion around 1:30 p.m. Friday, according to the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG).
Col. Thomas Frias Jr., IMEG acting director, said Obañana was initially found using the motorcycle seized during a drug operation.
The motorcycle was not included in the inventory of items that Obañana’s team confiscated, and it was learned that he took custody of it and demanded P3,000 for its release, said Frias.
Obañana was arrested by members of the IMEG, Regional Intelligence Division, and local police shortly after he received the marked money from the complainant, he added.
Obañana is presently under the custody of the IMEG’s Visayas Field Unit in Cebu City while a criminal charge of robbery/extortion and related administrative charges are being prepared against him.
