MANILA, Philippines — Nxled reaped the fruits of its free agent-recruiting binge as it edged Farm Fresh, 25-23, 13-25, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12, on Tuesday to launch its ambitious championship bid in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Arena in San Juan City.

Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo and MJ Phillips, who were part of the Petro Gazz franchise that won the AFC and Reinforced Conference last year before taking a leave, delivered as expected with 20, 19 and 13 points, respectively, to help the Chameleons snatch the win.

It was also a result that should set in motion their campaign of claiming a breakthrough title.

And with the way things turned out on this one, it appears that realizing their title aspiration is not that far-fetched.

In contrast, it was a painful defeat for the Foxies, who appeared in control when it seized a 2-1 set lead and a 5-3 edge in the fourth set.

It wasn’t to be though as the troika of former Angels took turns in steering Nxled back in the set and forcing a deciding frame that the fledgling franchise took with a late key run.

Interestingly, Van Sickle, Pablo and Phillips spoiled the return of their former Petro Gazz coach in Japanese Koji Tsuzurabara, who was on the other side of the fence now with hopes of bringing in the same championship magic he weaved when he was still with his old squad.
