A policeman was killed, another was injured, and four other persons were arrested when shooting ensued during a buy-bust operation in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, Tuesday night, police reported.
SSgt. Karl Marty Manzanilla and Pat. Ariel Maribojo sustained bullet wounds and were brought to a local hospital, but doctors declared the former dead on arrival, according to reports from the Calabarzon regional police and Cavite PNP.
Manzanilla was a member of the provincial police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) while Maribojo is part of its Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU).
The gunman, identified as Marlon Pacia, managed to escape along with a certain Jun-jun Javier and one Jomarie Pacia.
Arrested were Jesabel Cadag alias “Maylyn,” Jemuel Pillar, John Marco Pacia, and John Lloyd Pacia.
Members of the DEU and SOG conducted the sting around 9:30 p.m. along Snake Road in Brgy. Salawag.
Marlon and his cohorts had just sold P500 worth of suspected shabu when he apparently sensed that he transacted with undercover lawmen, so he drew his caliber-.45 pistol and fired on Maribojo and Manzanilla, the reports said.
Operatives seized nine sachets of suspected shabu and recovered the marked P500 bill used in the sting.
The arrested suspects were taken to the city police’s custodial facility, while a manhunt for Marlon and the others who escaped is ongoing.
