House Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe has branded as “baseless” the rumor that there is a plot to have Vice President Sara Duterte impeached.

In a statement Thursday afternoon, Nov. 16, Dalipe strongly dismissed the rumor as “baseless and detrimental to political unity”.

He stressed that such “unfounded” rumors are “mere attempts to sow discord between Vice President Sara Duterte and Speaker Martin Romualdez, and there is no truth in them”.

On Thursday morning, Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro bared that there were impeachment talks in the House against Duterte.

The Mindanaoan went to say that if the Vice President has not committed any wrongdoing, then “there is no reason for concern about these baseless rumors”.

Dalipe highlighted the stringent requirements in filing an impeachment complaint in Congress. He said that a complaint must be supported by substantial evidence and justifiable reasons, in line with the constitutional process.

Dalipe noted that while any Filipino citizen has the right to file a complaint, the process is rigorous and requires significant evidence for it to be considered by Congress.
