The event, which started on Saturday, June 1, and ended on Monday, June 3, attracted more than a hundred of motorcycle enthusiasts coming from various places in the country.

“Since Dapitan is a tourist city and is a major part of tourism, we zeroing in on sports tourism, legacy tourism, and heritage tourism,” said Apple Marie Agolong, Dapitan’s tourism officer.

The local government unit of Dapitan has partnered with MTW Racing and NGO Philippines for the holding event, which showcased not only motorcycle drag race enthusiasts but also raised awareness on road safety.

Aside from the race itself, the event also featured educational workshops on motorcycle safety, maintenance, and responsible riding which will further promote safer roads and informed riders.

More importantly, the event is expected to create economic boom in the city, said Agolong.

“Having this kind of sports event in the city, this will have an economic domino. People will come here and as a result, there will be high occupancy in our pension houses and inns and even our entertainment center which is the Gloria de Dapitan where you can find the Glorious Fantasy Land,” said Agolong.

The holding of the competition came almost eight months after the city hosted the Ironman 5150.

Agolong disclosed that the city is also gearing up for its hosting of a national arnis competition late this month.

“In a tourism officer point of view, it is really great to hold an event like this (drag race) which has a solid following and enthusiasts that affects the economic aspect of a certain place,” Agolong.

Agolong said the series of topnotch sporting events held in the city was made possioble by the support of Dapitan Mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos.

“Our mayor is young, talented, a multi-sport practioner. He is very much supportive, open-minded and risk-taker when it comes to these kinds of events,” said Agolong.
