Deja vu: Orcollo’s loss to Yapp a repeat of 2019 defeat

Dennis Orcollo yields to Aloysius Yapp, 6-11, in the semifinals of US Open Pool Championship late Saturday.

The Philippines’ Dennis Orcollo’s bid in the 2021 US Open Pool Championship ended after a 6-11 loss against Singaporean Aloysius Yapp on 18 September at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This was déjá vu for Orcollo since Yapp previously defeated him at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games men’s nine-ball pool singles quarterfinals.

The 42-year-old Orcollo had a 5-2 advantage before Yapp won seven straight racks to take the lead.

The Filipino cue artist managed to score a rack but the Singaporean got the last rack to advance into the finals.

This leaves Carlo Biado as the remaining Filipino in contention for the finals. He’s currently playing against Oi Naoyuki of Japan in a separate semifinal match.
