Diaz misses SEA Games weightlifting podium

MANILA, Philippines — Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz fell short of a podium finish in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games, finishing fourth in the women’s 58 kilogram weightlifting event Sunday in Bangkok.

Diaz, the eldest among those competing, garnered a total weight of 200 kg in snatch and clean and jerk.

She was able to successfully lift 90 kilograms in snatch, but could not complete her attempt at 92 kilograms.

In clean and jerk, Diaz cleared 110 kilograms with ease. But in both her attempts at 115 and 116 kilograms, she was unable to lift the barbell.

Thailand’s Suratwadee Yodarn emerged top with 224 total kilograms, while Indonesia’s Natasya Beteyob brought home the silver medal with 218 kilograms.

Vietnam’s Thi Tam Quang finished third with 215 kilograms.

Myanmar’s Htwe Htet Htet ended up fifth with 191 kilograms, while Timor-Leste’s Ester Elisaria Alves was last with 90 kilograms.

Diaz previously won gold medals in the SEA Games back in 2019 and 2021, although in the -55 kilogram division. She had silver medal finishes in the -58 kilogram division back in 2011 adn 2013, as well as a bronze in 2007.
