The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed two major infrastructure projects in La Union that now provide better and faster mobility, and protect residents from flooding.

DPWH La Union 1st District Engineer Jose G. Ginete, Jr. said the newly-completed projects were the concrete dike along the Baroro River in Barangay Sta. Rosa, San Juan, and a farm-to-market road in San Fernando City.

Ginete said a total of 192 linear meters of dike in Barangay Sta. Rosa have been improved into concrete with lined canals costing P49 million.

This will keep residents and communities near riverbanks safe from flooding and soil erosion during calamities, he said.

On the other hand, Ginete said the 483-meter farm-to-market road built in the amount of P4.9 million that links Barangay Pao Sur and Barangay Pao Norte in San Fernando City improves farmers’ access to regional, national, and local market hubs and eventually boosts the agricultural community’s economic prospects.

“These developments underscore DPWH’s commitment to bolstering disaster-resilient infrastructure and improving transportation connectivity in La Union, contributing to a safer, more prosperous environment for its residents and farmers,” he said.
