PBA aspirant Jonnel Policarpio made good use of the PBA Draft Combine not only to impress the coaches who attended the two-day event but also boost his stock ahead of the proceedings on Sunday, July 14, at the Glorietta Makati.
Policarpio, a 6-foot-5 big man who seemed capable of transitioning into a wing in the pros, made heads turn in the combine after helping his team rule the tournament.
He even exploded for 21 points in the final – a fitting followup to his 14 points in the semis to star in the Mythical Five that also included Kurt Reyson, Jordan Bartlett, and bigs Brandon Ramirez and Justine Baltazar.
“Sobrang blessed at grateful ako na nakuha ko ‘yung MVP. Pero bonus lang ‘to,” said Policarpio .
While making a good show in the combine certainly boosted his stock, Policarpio knew full well that it was still not enough to prove that he’s already ready for the big league especially that he is one of the youngest in this year’s cast
The 22-year-old Kapampangan stressed he is ready to transition from a power forward in the collegiate ranks into possibly sliding to the small forward or even shooting guard positions in a bigger competition that is the PBA.
“Ready naman ako kahit anong ipalaro sa akin, kahit saang mapuntang team. Guard man or forward,” he added while sharing that he is still continuing to work on his shooting and heft to prepare himself going into the pro ranks.
More than his willingness to adjust to the play in the big league, Policarpio also vowed to give his full commitment to whichever team picks him in the draft.
“Siguro ang matutulong ko sa kung saan ako mapunta, yung commitment ko 100% and bibigay ko yung best ko every game,” said the former Green Archer.
