Duterte threatens raps vs Gordon for alleged malversation

President Rodrigo Duterte railed against Sen. Richard Gordon anew during his latest public address, this time threatening that he would file malversation charges against the senator for allegedly misusing P86 million funds during his stint as chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

Duterte on Wednesday night accused Gordon of pocketing the money flagged by the Commission on Audit (COA) while he was chairman of the SBMA.

“The COA said you got the money personally when you were still in Subic, so return it. You were elected senator for the longest time, but until now you have yet to return the money,” he said.

“I would like to inquire from the Ombudsman if there is a case filed against you because the money was not returned… Kindly settle, or not, I will personally see to it that a case will be filed against you,” the President added.

Duterte, a lawyer, also said Gordon should face the government’s anti-graft court over his supposed failure to return the money flagged by COA.

Gordon served as the chairman of SBMA from 1992 to 1998.

The President also urged Gordon to give up either his chairmanship at the Philippine Red Cross or his Senate seat, saying his “dual personality” is illegal.

“Do not say that the Red Cross and you are separate identities. That’s bullsh*t. You are a dual personality that is banned or prohibited by law. You should have been sued long ago. It’s just that nobody was brave enough,” he said.

“I will insist that you give up one because you cannot be both,” Duterte added.

Gordon has yet to comment on the President’s remarks.

Duterte’s latest tirades against Gordon were part of the ongoing word war between the two officials, triggered by the Senate hearings on Covid-19 supply deals.

Gordon is the chairperson of the Senate blue ribbon committee that has been investigating the Duterte administration’s purchase of medical supplies for pandemic response last year.
