The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) on Sunday supported the call of some medical practitioners to allow the use of Ivermectin as a cure against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In an interview over dzMM, ECOP President Sergio Ortiz-Luis, Jr. also questioned why the administration fails to consider the urgency of approving Ivermectin in the market.
“We are asking the government as there are some who are gathering a million signatures to allow the use of Ivermectin,” Ortiz-Luis said.
Earlier, the Food and Drug Administration warned the public against the use of Ivermectin, an anti-parasitic drug, for human consumption, saying it has no approval from the FDA as a cure for COVID-19.
“It’s obvious that eventually, Ivermectin will be allowed for commercial use. How come authorities keep on dribbling us.,” he added.
He maintained that Ivermectin has been in the market for years.
“Officials keep on saying that it is only being used for animals, which is not true as many are already importing the drug,” Ortiz-Luis maintained.
