Eric Cray gains World Championships berth

Filipino-American Eric Cray gained a World Athletics Championships berth, joining fellow hurdler Robyn Lauren Brown and pole vaulter Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena.

The World Championships is slated from August 19 to 27.

Cray gained enough points to make the top 40 of the world rankings which merits a slot in the World Championships.

The 34-year-old Cray, a one-time Asian Champion, will race on August 20.

The World Championships will be Cray's second major competition since the 32nd Southeast Asian Games last May in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

There, Cray seized his six straight gold in the men's 400m hurdles.

Meanwhile, Brown punched her ticket to the Worlds after ruling the women's 400m hurdles in the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok, Thailand last July.

On the other hand, Obiena is an automatic entry in the Worlds courtesy of him being the world no.2 pole vaulter.

Obiena captured a bronze medal in last year's edition of the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, becoming the first Filipino to make the podium of the said meet.

Obiena last competed in the Monaco Leg of the Wanda Diamond League where he claimed a silver medal.
