Ex-world champ Ancajas to face Mexican in featherweight debut

MANILA, Philippines — Jerwin Ancajas is eyeing to make some noise in his debut in featherweight.

Ancajas will be seeing action this weekend in Mexico as he faces Mexican Rafael Rosas Ramirez in a non-title featherweight debut.

The 34-year-old boxer, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion, will try to make a statement against the 35-year-old rugged natural 126-pounder.

“I feel fresh and ready to start this new chapter of my career on fire. My condition is tremendously greater than it was. My punches, stamina and speed movements are so awesome,” the Panabo, Davao del Norte boxer said.

“I do not like to look forward to my next fight. My focus is to win my fight in Tijuana.”

Ancajas is riding a three-match winstreak, getting wins over Sukpasried Ponphitak, Richie Mepranum and Ruben Casero in his previous three fights.

He has a 37-4-2 win-loss-draw record with 24 knockouts, and will stake his slate against the Ramirez, who has lost nine of his previous 10 fights.

“He is extremely comfortable and he is fast, strong and his stamina looks okay at those weights. We will see how he performs at 126 first but we can still make it at 122 if he wants to,” longtime trainer/coach Joven Jimenez said. “What important is Jerwin is prepared for the war.”
