MANILA, Philippines — It was just a matter of time before Farm Fresh gets to translate its free-agent shopping spree into a victory.
It came Saturday when the players Foxies finally found the winning formula against the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12, on Saturday that jumpstarted its ambitious PVL All-Filipino Conference bid at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
Trisha Tubu delivered another strong effort and unloaded 17 points, 13 came off attacks and the other four on blocks, as the Strong Group Athletic franchise claimed its first win of the conference after a disappointing 0-2 start.
Mylene Paat and Royce Tubino, two of the plethora of preseason additions, provided quality minutes for a Farm Fresh squad that was initially one of the teams favored to challenge for the crown but a tough early schedule that saw it dropping a five-setter to Nxled and a four-setter to Cignal stymied its bid.
Farm Fresh made sure there won’t be a third straight loss.
“We actually did well in the first two games, it was just we haven’t really adjusted enough to the new system, coach and new teammates that much,” said Tubu.
For Farm Fresh’s Japanese coach Koji Tsuzurabara, it was a relief winning for the first time for his new squad.
“First time in half a month, I’m on top. But it’s just one win,” he said.
The Highrisers succumbed to their second setback against a win.
