MANILA, Philippines — Spain and Colombia engage in a titanic clash in Tuesday’s featured match in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025 at the PhilSports Arena.
Game time is set at 8:30 p.m., with the World No. 2 Spaniards and the eighth-ranked Colombians out to show who’s the boss in Group B and grab the upper hand in the chase for tickets to the knockout rounds.
The heavyweights both lived up to their billings and took care of opening business last Saturday in the global showcase backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Football Federation.
La Roja fended off the tough stand of No. 4 Thailand, 5-2, with Laura Cordoba scoring two spectacular goals in the 16th and 18th minutes to break a 2-2 standoff and spark the three-time Euro queens to their breakaway.
For their part, the Colombians blanked No. 74 Canada, 2-0, with Angely Camargo (16th) and Nicole Mancilla (30th) netting and Alisson Olave tending brilliantly for the South Americans.
“We’re happy with this start and we hope to carry it over to the next match against Colombia,” said Spain coach Claudia Pons in Spanish.
Thailand, runner-up in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup last May, and Canada, the reigning CONCACAF W Futsal titlist, seek to bounce back at each other’s expense in the curtain raiser at 6 p.m.
The best and brightest are in the country in pursuit of history as the first-ever Women’s Futsal World Cup champions.
Among the 16 aspirants is host Philippines, which will face Morocco Monday night in a battle of teams that dropped their maiden games in Group A. (Pool story)
