MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas dropped by three spots in the FIBA men’s ranking, following the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Gilas slid to World No. 39 from World No. 36 according to the rankings dated July 13.
The Philippines dropped both games in the third window of the qualifiers.
The team fell in double overtime against New Zealand, 106-102, before falling against Australia, 92-49.
Gilas finished the first round of the qualifiers with a 2-4 win-loss record. The second round of the World Cup qualifying tournament will kick off in August.
The Philippines remained the seventh-best Asian team, according to the rankings.
Australia is the top country in the region, ranked seventh in the world. Japan (22), New Zealand (25), Iran (26), China (30), and Lebanon (31) finished ahead of Gilas among Asian countries.
The United States remains to be the top country in the world. Germany, Serbia, France, Canada, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and Lithuania complete the top 10 basketball nations.
