SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go backed the decision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. stopping the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) from implementing the scheduled premium increase this year.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography said that he sees no reason why this move would negatively affect the benefits and services for PhilHealth members.

“We have successfully pushed for the allocation of P79 billion for PhilHealth subsidy under the 2023 national budget,” said Go. “In addition, we also included another P21.17 billion for benefit package improvements.”

These include improvements for dialysis coverage, mental health outpatient coverage, improvement of Z-Benefit packages, severe acute malnutrition, rationalization of selected medical and surgical procedures and the implementation of the comprehensive outpatient benefit package, including free consultation fees, laboratory tests, other diagnostic services, outpatient drug benefit, and emergency medical services.

The agency was supposed to increase members' contributions from 4 percent to 4.5 percent in 2023 in accordance with Section 10 of the Universal Health Care Act.

Meanwhile, Go urged the government's health agencies to provide Filipinos better services.
