The government vaccination program has breached the five million mark, said National Task Force Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. on Sunday.
Since the vaccination rollout began in March, the government has inoculated a total of 5,100,023 Filipinos.
This, according to Galvez, is way beyond the initial target to vaccinate four million Filipinos by the end of May.
“I am very thankful to the National Vaccine Operations Center under the leadership of Undersecretary (Myrna) Cabotaje) because we were able to breach the five million mark.
“Our target is only four million before the end of May, but as of yesterday (Saturday), we even exceeded our projection by reaching the five million mark,” Galvez said.
Based on records, 1.4 million health workers have received their vaccines.
“At present, we were able to vaccinate a total of 1.4 million healthcare workers, representing 93.33 percent of the total numbers and then at least 664,000 received their second dose,” Galvez added.
In the A2 priority category or the senior citizens, out of the nine million target, at least 1,368,836 seniors were already inoculated while for A3 or persons with comorbidities, at least 1,150,996 or 22.7 percent received their jabs.
“While a total of 1,189,353 Filipinos are fully protected after completing the two doses of vaccination,” Galvez said.
