MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will be temporarily led by its executive director, Greg Pua Jr., as its chief is set to undergo surgery.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II has a heart bypass procedure scheduled on July 7. Mendoza told Rappler he hopes to be back by July 28.
Pua will take on the role of acting assistant secretary beginning Friday, July 4.
“He shall be entitled to all benefits and allowances accruing to the designation, except the basic salary, subject to existing budgeting, accounting, and auditing laws, rules, and regulations,” read a special order from the Department of Transportation, dated June 24.
According to an LTO statement in 2024, Pua is the youngest to hold the executive director position in the agency. Just in his mid-30s, he has been tasked to help reach younger clients and promote road safety.
Pua obtained an undergraduate degree in Legal Management before taking up law at San Beda University.
He worked for several law offices and was a legal consultant of transport groups before he joined the LTO.
Mendoza has been LTO chief since July 2023, the fourth under the Marcos administration. – Rappler.com
