MANILA, Philippines — Actress Janine Gutierrez is set to produce a documentary about her grandmother, legendary singer Pilita Corrales.
Janine confirmed on her social media accounts she is working with "Sunday Beauty Queen" director Baby Ruth Villarama on a documentary about her Mamita.
"I've always felt a deep responsibility to help preserve Mamita's amazing legacy and I hope this project becomes another way for younger generations to learn about her story — not just as a legendary performer, but as a woman who defied expectations and truly paved the way," Janine said.
The actress shared the "Pilita" documentary is currently in the early development stage but is already being introduced at Producer's Network and Spotlight Asia this week at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.
Joining Janine as producers are Raymond Ang and Chuck Gutierrez, the latter also working with Baby Ruth on "Sunday Beauty Queen," which won Best Picture at the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival.
Pilita, referred to as "Asia's Queen of Songs," has released over a hundred albums and songs over a decorated career spanning seven decades.
Considered to be one of the country's greatest singers, many Filipinos are clamoring for Pilita to be put into consideration for National Artist.
