
MANILA, Philippines — Unseeded Japanese Aoi Ishizaki triumphed over compatriot Shun Munetoh, 7-5, 6-2, to pocket the boys' singles title in the first leg of the ITF J30 Manila Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The 15-year old Ishizaki also won the doubles title with Kango Endoh, beating Munetoh and Rentaro Otaka, 6-4, 6-3.
Ishikawa eliminated No. 3 Ariyaphol Leekul of Thailand (QF) and No. 6 compatriot Kuranosuke Suzuki (semis) while Munetoh ousted No. 4 Napat Pattanalertphan of Thailand (QF) and No. 2 Ruochen Gao of China (semis).
In the girls division, second seed Seojin Park of South Korea stunned No. 1 Yi-Ching Huang of Chinese Taipei, 6-4, 6-3, in the singles final.
"Park played very well, she has a solid forehand," said the 18-year-old Huang, a member of the U16 national team. She has won one singles and three doubles titles this year.
"This is her last tournament in the ITF Juniors and she gave her best out there," commented Rau Gau Yu, who has been coaching Huang for seven years.
Third seeds Paweenon Nualsri of Thailand and Ying Chi Chloe Wong of Hong Kong downed fourth seeds Wang Jiayi and Xu Yishan of China, 6-2, 6-3, in the doubles final. (Pool story)
