Earlier this month, Filipino films were celebrated in Los Angeles with the launch of the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF). Held at the Directors Guild of America in Sunset Boulevard, the festival featured three films from the Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) summer edition—” About Us But Not About Us,” “Here Comes the Groom,” and “ Love You Long Time.”

Among the stars who graced the event was Kaladkaren. During the event, the news anchor and comedienne was a vision in pink as she donned a terno gown crafted by Filipino designer Jhong Sudlon. The look featured geometric embellishments, an elegant cape, and a silhouette that hugged the actress’ curves.
For Kaladkaren, her presence at the film festival is a big step for the Filipino queer community. “Aside from our representation as Filipino actors, I’m happy to be a part of this milestone as an LGBTQIA+ Filipino,’ Kaladkaren posted on Instagram. “I hope people like me will get more opportunities like this! The future is bright! Mabuhay ang Manila International Film Festival! Mabuhay ang pelikulang Pilipino!”
Last April, Kaladkaren made history as the first transgender woman to win the MMFF Best Supporting Actress award with her performance in the movie “Here Comes the Groom.” According to a report by the Manila Bulletin, the MIFF is set to screen next year in Los Angeles the ten official entries of the 49th edition of the MMFF.
