Kelvin Miranda grateful for back-to-back projects

The previous week was a big one for young actor Kelvin Miranda — his movie “Missed Connections” with Miles Ocampo started streaming on Netflix, almost the same time as his new show “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis” premiered on GMA Network.

In Missed Connections, Miranda plays Norman, the awkward guy whom Miles Ocampo's character Mae falls in love with and tries to win over.

“My character Norman is a bit shy around girls and he is actually NGSB [no girlfriend since birth]. It's my first time to play a role that's not a chick boy or a bad boy,” Miranda shared in the vernacular during his solo media conference for “Missed Connections.”

“I auditioned for this role and was surprised when I got it,” he added.

Wanting not to spoil the story, Miranda simply said viewers will be able to relate to his character as everyone longs to be connected with one another.

While he was tight-lipped about his character, Miranda did not skimp on praises when he started talking about his leading lady. Even if it was their first project together, Miranda said he found Ocampo easy to work with.

“She's a natural and very fun on set. I'm so happy to have worked with her because she made the work light. She's also very giving as an actress.”

In the end, Miranda shared the lesson he hopes the audience will get after watching Missed Connections.

“I think the takeaway for the show is to never lose your faith. There's nothing, or no one, permanent in our lives; they will come and go. But we should never lose our faith that something better will eventually replace what we have lost.”

'Next big actor'

Besides Missed Connections, the 26-year-old also wrapped up another acting project, which he hopes to promote soon.

With his back-to-back projects, Miranda has been dubbed as the next big actor of GMA Network.

“I'm really happy with how my career is turning out and all these amazing characters that I get to portray. To show my gratitude, I always put my best in every opportunity that come my way.”

Throwing full support to the actor, GMA and its talent management arm, Sparkle GMA Artist Center, even organized the solo media conference that Miranda said made him feel even more valued.

“The management has really guided me in every project and for that, I'm very grateful. They always motivate me to do even the things I haven't done before.”

Did he experience difficulty in playing these roles simultaneously, albeit in different setups?

Miranda confidently said no, he did not, because he would always prepare and study each role carefully.

“I always ask guidance from my directors and permission if I can contribute something to add richness to my character.”

In ending, Miranda reiterated that he would continue to hone his craft as a sign of gratitude for the opportunities actors his age could only dream of.

“I'll always be grateful so I'll always give whatever is required for my roles,” he ended.

Also starring Chie Filomeno and JC Santos, director Jelise Chun's Missed Connections is now streaming on Netflix.
