Ahead of his first fun meet with Filipino fans, Korean star Song Kang enjoyed a taste of Philippine cuisine.
“I got to eat halo halo, kare-kare, bulalo and garlic rice,” the actor candidly shared at his media conference on Sunday morning.
“I also like the dried mangoes!” he added.
The 28-year-old arrived in Manila Saturday noon for his fun meet arranged by skincare brand Deoproce. The actor is the Korean skincare line's brand ambassador.
Upon arriving, he said the first thing he wanted to do was to see the streets of city, so he went out and even got himself food from the homegrown brand Jollibee.
By the end of the day, he sampled Filipino home-style cooking.
Asked for his first impression of Manila, Song answered, “The streets of Manila are beautiful and I love the weather! This is the kind of weather I like — breezy and pretty cool.”
He divulged that after the fun meet on Sunday evening at the Araneta Coliseum, he plans to experience Manila once more before eventually flying out on Monday.
“I wish I have more time to explore the Philippines but next time I'm here, I want to go to Boracay and eat a lot of seafood and have a healing experience by traveling out of the city.”
Despite his young career — he debuted in the 2017 romantic comedy TV show “The Liar and His Lover” — Song has already starred in notable series such as “Love Alarm,” “Sweet Home,” “Nevertheless,” and “Forecasting Love and Weather.”
Because most of his series are available on Netflix, he has been dubbed as the “Son of Netflix.”
Song expressed his excitement to finally meet his Filipino fans, one of his biggest supporters.
“I've received so much love but I have not been able to give back to my Filipino fans just because of the situation lately. So to finally be here and be able to do that, I'm just really happy. I am a bit nervous but I'm very much looking forward to it.”
Finally, he shared that events like fun meets allow him to communicate with them.
“By communicating with my fans, I feel like I'm improving and developing a lot so I'm curious as to what kind of communication will take place today with my Filipino fans,” he ended.
Song Kang Fun Meet in Manila is happening tonight, 6 p.m. at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Fans can get access to the show by buying Deoproce products and exchanging their receipts for tickets at the venue.
