SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A police officer rescued a 17-year-old teenage boy who was about to jump off an overpass here on Saturday, May 3.

The boy was allegedly suffering from depression due to family problems. He was from Ilocos Sur and arrived in this city to talk to friends.

Police Staff Sgt. Quincy Von Obillo, assigned to the Police Regional Office-1 (Ilocos region), was dubbed “Sgt. Dalisay,” the heroic character portrayed by actor Coco Martin in the “Ang Probinsyano” TV series, for his heroic deed.

The police officer told the Manila Bulletin that he was patrolling the area when he saw the boy clinging to the overpass and about to jump. His instinct to rescue kicked in and stopped the boy from ending his life.

“Nakita ko ng bata nakalambitin at nahulog na ang kanyang tsinelas kaya tinakbo ko agad sa taas para mailigtas,” Obillo said.

Netizens cited Obillo for his heroism which turned viral on social media.

He and colleague Police Master Sgt. Junvy Buduan brought the boy to the hospital for a checkup.

Obillo was also viral and recognized earlier this year on social media after assisting an elderly stroke patient struggling to board a bus here.

He said that helping people is part of his job. “Tumutulong tayo kapag nakita natin kailangan ng tao,” Obillo, who is also a blogger said.
