ADAMSON University ended the first round of the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament on a positive note by defeating University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-17, 25-23, on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

In the third set, with Adamson leading 23-22, Steph Bustrillo made a costly error but quickly made up for it with a down-the-line kill to keep UP alive at 23-24.

However, Kate Santiago went off-the-block to secure the win for Adamson.

“After the first round, we did our job. We were able to get the games that we needed to win. I think our placing is okay,” said head coach Jerry Yee.

The Lady Falcons tied for third place with University of Santo Tomas, both with identical 5-2 records.

Santiago was outstanding for Adamson, scoring 16 points on 12 attacks, three blocks, and a service ace.
