Lady Tamaraws survive Blue Eagles to stay on UAAP semis hunt

MANILA, Philippines — With their backs against the wall and their Final Four aspirations about to end, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws charged back and kept their season alive.

FEU dropped the first two sets but dug deep and completed a reverse sweep over Ateneo, 22-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 15-10, in their UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball clash Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Morayta-based squad thus kept its Final Four dreams alive, although it is out of their hands.

Gerzel Petallo finished with an all-around performance of 17 points and 16 digs. Lovely Lopez produced 13 markers, 26 receptions and six digs.

Donna de Leon powered Ateneo in the losing effort with 15 points while Jlo delos Santos chipped in 12.

Now, FEU's Final Four aspirations will boil down to the matchup between University of Santo Tomas and National University in the final game of the elimination round.

If UST loses to the three-seat seeking Lady Bulldogs, the Lady Tamaraws and the Tigresses will face off in a playoff for the fourth seed of the women’s tournament. But if the Espana-based squad wins, they will complete the Final Four picture.
