MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University rose to solo fourth in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball after charging past the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-17, 25-17, 26-24, Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Tamaraws stormed back late in the third set despite going down big to grab the straight-sets victory.
FEU thus rose to 3-2 in the standings, while Ateneo slipped to its fifth straight loss in as many games.
Faida Bakanke carried the Lady Tamaraws’ offense with 12 points, while Jaz Ellarina had 11 markers on five attacks, three blocks and three aces. Gerz Petallo chipped in nine.
After losing the first two sets, Ateneo took a 19-12 lead in the third frame.
Slowly but surely, the Lady Tamaraws clawed out of the hole.
Trailing by five, 17-22, FEU unleashed four straight points capped by a block by Lovely Lopez to slice the deficit to one, 21-22.
A service ace by Jaz Ellarina tied things up at 23-all, before Zel Tsunashima pushed Ateneo to the set point, 24-23.
Lopez then took matters into her own hands and punched in three straight for the win, 26-24.
Lopez and Cla Loresco had eight markers apiece for FEU. Tin Ubaldo had 14 sets and four points.
Tsunashima powered Ateneo with 11 points while Jihan Chuatico chipped in seven.
