MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University charged to its first win of the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping University of the East, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14, Wednesday evening at the Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.

The Lady Tamaraws thus bounced back from their loss in their first game of the season, while keeping UE winless through two games.

Faida Bakanke and Jaz Ellarina had 11 markers apiece. The former had 10 attacks and a block, while the latter had five attacks, five blocks and an ace.

After getting drubbed in the second set, 14-25, UE fell behind by a huge margin in the early goings of the third set.

But the Lady Warriors were able to chip the deficit away, moving to within six, 11-17.

Three straight points by FEU, capped by an Aly Devosora point, pushed the lead back to nine, 20-11.

The Lady Tamaraws could not recover, as the nearest they got to was within seven, 13-20.

Timely points by Faida Bakanke, Mitzi Panangin and Devosora put the cherry on top of the victory.

FEU was simply too good to stop, punching in 39 attacks vs the Lady Warriors’ 24.

The Morayta-based team also hosted a block party with 13 blocks against just one for their opponents.

Petallo chipped in nine for FEU, while Lovely Lopez had eight. Tin Ubaldo also showed up offensively with seven points and 10 excellent sets.

Khy Cepeda had nine for UE on eight attacks and an ace. Van Bangayan and Bea Zamudio chipped in eight and seven, respectively.

FEU will be back in action on Saturday as it takes on National University, while UE will clash with Adamson on the same day. Both games will be at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
