Don Jerome Empania and Jose Ravinar Austria captured the overall leg title as the Lakewood Golf and Country Club made a triumphant return after last year’s romp in the Davao leg of the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour last Friday, Aug. 9.

Empania and Austria survived the challenge of Eagle Ridge father-and-son tandem Sherwin and Steven Ferrer with a 121 total from 60 points in the scramble format at Rancho Palos Verdes and 61 in best-ball to win by two points.
A 1-2 finish by Eduardo Aberin-Rodel Matias and Tomas Joson IV-Dennis Salazar in Class B plus a runner-up showing by Von Vernon Vargas-Oscar Galio in Class A completed the rousing start for the defending Club of the Year champion Lakewood.
The Cabanatuan club wound up with 14 points to kick off their title retention bid eight points clear of South Pacific. Rancho Palos Verdes and Eagle Ridge had four points apiece while Pinewoods managed to post 2.
The Ferrers topped Class A by two points over Vargas and Gallo in the 18th season opener of the Sta. Lucia Tour presented by Sta. Lucia Land, Inc., United Auto Asia Group, Inc. and its four brands BAIC, Chery, Foton and Lynk & Co with Get Go as hole-in-one sponsor. The premium sponsors are Davies Paints, Okada Manila, Hanabishi, VMJ, GG&A Club Shares and G&W Club Shares.
The home clubs snagged the top awards in the lower divisions with the Palos Verdes pair of Abraham Lacy and Brian Good scoring a net 127 for a two-stroke win over Randall Hooper and Leo Rogowski of South Pacific in Class C.
In Class D, Kenneth and Lawrence Retuya of South Pacific combined for a 135 to win by two over the Pinewoods tandem of Terrance Parker and Leonard Sab-it.
The series moves to the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club next month for the much-awaited return of the Cebu stop.
The newly-introduced sponsors division was won by Edwin Valledor and Ricky Pahang (132) who beat AC Sian and Victoria Brias (139).
