WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27, 4 pm, at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
The situation is markedly different from last year, when Marcos’ erstwhile ally, Vice President Sara Duterte, avoided an impeachment trial after the Supreme Court ruled that the complaint against her was unconstitutional as it is barred by the one-year rule.
This year, as Marcos delivers his fifth SONA, the impeachment trial against the Vice President is in full swing. Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, is no longer House speaker following his resignation after he was implicated in flood control corruption. Marcos himself had announced a crackdown on those involved in the scandal in his SONA last year.
How will Marcos set the tone for the last two years of his presidency? What promises will he declare as fulfilled, and what remains to be done? What will be his new marching order a year since he called for crackdown on flood control corruption?
