Low Pressure Area enters PAR, affects Bicol, Samar – Pagasa

A low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and its trough is affecting Bicol and Samar, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.

In a 4 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather disturbance was last spotted past 3 p.m. some 575 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

So far, it has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical depression in the coming days, weather specialist Raymond Ordinario told The Manila Times over a phone conversation.

“Just the same, we will closely monitor its movement as its development into a tropical depression is not yet ruled out,” he said.

Its trough is bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar, Pagasa said.

The combined effect of the inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the trough of LPA is affecting the northern portion of Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula which will have similar weather conditions.

Over the next 24 hours, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional downpours or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.
