Magbuhos drills game-winning trey as Adamson turns back Ateneo

Birthday boy Vince Magbuhos couldn't have given himself a better gift.

Magbuhos drained the game-winning off-the-glass triple as Adamson turned back Ateneo in overtime, 74-71, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, October 7.

With 3.3 seconds left off a timeout, Magbuhos caught the inbound pass at the top of the key and dribbled once to his right to shoot the trey over Jason Credo, the ball banking into the rim and into the glass again before dropping back in as time expired.

The Soaring Falcons thus completed their comeback bid, overcoming a 19-point deficit to notch their second straight win and improved to 2-1. On the other hand, the defending champs Blue Eagles couldn't get a winning run going yet, dropping to 1-2.

“There were so many things running through my mind like 'what would I do if got the ball, will I shoot, pass or dribble it,” said Magbuhos in the post-game presser. “It was already a broken play actually so I had to shoot it and thank the Lord it went in.”

Magbuhos finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists for the Soaring Falcons, whom the Blue Eagles jumped on in the first uater, 25-9.

Adamson battled back in the last two quarters, highlighted by its 7-0 run to turn a 62-69 deficit in the last 2:59 into a deadlock at 69 following a Matthew Montebon corner trey with 29.4 seconds to go.

The Soaring Falcons then forced the Blue Eagles into a shot clock violation and Joem Sabandal had a chance to win it for Adamson in regulation but missed his layup, ultimately setting up the overtime and Magbuho's heroics.

Ced Manzano also proved to be pivotal in Adamson's comeback win as he dropped a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds on top of two blocks. Eli Ramos chipped in 12 points, three assists, and two steals while Didap Hanapi added nine points, two rebounds, and two assists.

Mason Amos paced the Blue Eagles with 12 points, six rebounds, and two steals as Kai Balungay got 10 markers and nine boards. Chris Koon turned in nine points and eight rebounds while Joseph Obasa unleashed eight points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
