
A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Isabela on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tremor took place at 8:49 a.m., some 39 kilometers northeast of the town of Maconacon, also in the province, the agency said.
Tectonic in origin, the quake had a depth of focus of 31kms.
Phivolcs said Intensity 5 was felt by residents in Enrile, Peñablanca and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan while Intensity 4 in Balbalan, Pinukpuk, and City of Tabuk, Kalinga; City of Batac, Ilocos Norte and Maconacon, Isabela.
Intensity 3 was felt in Marcos and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Intensity 2 in Bacarra, City of Laoag and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte and Saguday, Quirino.
Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity 5 was recorded in Peñablanca, Cagayan; Intensity 4 in Gonzaga, Cagayan; and Intensity 3 in City of Ilagan, Isabela.
Phivolcs said Intensity 2 was recorded in City of Tabuk, Kalinga; City of Batac, City of Laoag and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur; City of Santiago, Santiago; Maddela, Quirino; Casiguran, Aurora while Intensity 1 was recorded in Bangued, Abra; Narvacan, Ilocos Sur; Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya; Baler and Dipaculao, Aurora.
Phivolcs chief Teresito “Toto” Bacolcol said both damage to property and aftershocks are expected from the Isabela earthquake.
