COTABATO CITY – The number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Maguindanao has reached 125,831 as of Thursday, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported.
Dr. Elizabeth Samama, Maguindanao IPHO chief, said of the total, 62,875 have received their first dose while another 62,956 have completed their two doses.
“Included in those who completed their vaccination were those who were inoculated with the single-dose Janssen vaccine,” Samama said in an interview by reporters here.
At present, she said, the IPHO remains determined to achieve its targeted population protection of 620,000 individuals in its Covid-19 immunization in the province within this year.
“We are still far from our target but we are inching there at a continuing pace,” Samama said, adding that the province has a sufficient supply of vaccines allocated by the national government for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
She said the province has a total allocation of 201,524 vaccines from the Ministry of Health (MOH) – BARMM and 125,831 of it have been served to the populace from the A1 to the A4 categories.
Included in the A1 category are front-line health workers; A2, senior citizens; A3, persons with comorbidities; and A4, essential workers in the economic sector.
“In our A1 category alone, I could safely say that our health front-liners are almost 100 percent immunized,” she said.
Meanwhile, Samama said the MOH-BARMM has recently informed her that another batch of 25,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine is arriving in the province soon.
“Fortunately, we are one of the provinces in BARMM that was given an ultra-low temperature freezer that could accommodate the cold chain requirements of Pfizer vaccines,” she said.
She urged unvaccinated individuals to have themselves vaccinated soon for self-protection and the safety of their families.
“I say again, Covid-19 is real and it is no joke,” Samama said.
Maguindanao currently has 402 active Covid-19 cases. (PNA)
