Majority leader Romualdez is COVID-19 positive

House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez is the latest lawmaker to test positive for Covid-19 as of Wednesday night.

The 57-year-old Leyte congressman announced this himself and is scheduled to undergo a second RT-PCR swab test to “rule out a false-positive result.”

He is currently in isolation and being closely monitored.

“Let me assure those who are concerned with my physical well-being that I am coping well despite experiencing symptoms of the disease, and that I am in high spirits,” Romualdez said.

“Rest assured that I will go back to work and perform my duties as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives as soon as I get a clean bill of health from health authorities,” he added.

House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Wednesday night placed the entire House of Representatives on a four-day lockdown starting 18 March, in response to the surge of Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila.

The House is scheduled to take a two-month break from 26 March to 16 May 2021.

The lower chamber has 29 active Covid-19 cases, mostly mild cases, as of 16 March.
