CEBU CITY – Another government official from Cebu has resigned from the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes on Wednesday, May 29, tendered his resignation letter to PDP-Laban president Palawan Rep. Jose Alvarez.
Cortes’ resignation came a day after Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia left the country’s former ruling party.

He cited Garcia’s departure from the PDP-Laban as the main reason for his resignation.
“This decision stems from my own desire to continue the unity forged under Gov. Gwen Garcia and maintain Mandaue under the banner of One Cebu,” Cortes said in his letter.
Garcia is the founding chairman of Cebu’s influential party, One Cebu.
“As the Mayor of Mandaue City, my priority is to align with initiatives that promote and serve our community’s best interest,” added Cortes.
